Sync Connect is an app which was introduced by Ford in Nov, 2015. It allows users to remotely control certain functions of their car. Tesla already has similar app but Sync Connect provides a broader functionality. Users can locate, lock and unlock their car using Sync Connect.
Sync is Ford’s in-car communication and infotainment app. After its 3rd iteration, now it allows to do things like hand-free calls, view directions, control and play music. Ford claims that its industry’s first system to provide voice-activated control of paired smartphone.
Connect feature of the app Sync is said to be Ford’s aim to deliver the “next level in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, the customer experience and big data.” For security, it requires two-step authentication to enable the app, both on car’s touch screen and mobile app.
Once app is up and running, it automatically connects to the modem installed in vehicle. Then it can be used to check car location for example where its parked, lock, unlock door, to check fuel, to start engine to warm it up, check fuel and to check tire pressure and battery etc.
