Spacious Tiny House with Upside-Down Layout Designed for Family Living

The Ivy Tiny House by French firm Baluchon challenges traditional tiny house layouts with its spacious, towable home design and unique “upside-down” layout. Unlike smaller models like the Hytta, this tiny house is built on a double-axle trailer, with a length of 8 m (26 ft), offering more space than the typical 6 m (20 ft) found in many French tiny homes. While it is larger than most French counterparts, it remains compact compared to some North American tiny houses, such as the Purple Manor.

The Ivy Tiny House features a striking exterior of heat-treated pine and black aluminum, and a timber terrace area will be installed upon delivery. The home is accessed through either double glass doors or a single glass door, which may seem unconventional but likely makes sense once the terrace is added.

Inside, the layout maximizes space and light, with the kitchen occupying the center of the home. This well-appointed kitchen includes an oven, a three-burner propane stove, a fridge freezer, and even a rare dishwasher in a French tiny house. A small wood-burning stove offers heating, ensuring warmth throughout the space.

In a departure from standard tiny house designs, the living room in the Ivy Tiny House is located upstairs, accessed via a small staircase. This room features a sofa bed and a projection system instead of a traditional TV, adding to the home’s modern appeal. The bathroom is split into two separate rooms, one for the W.C. and the other for the shower and sink. A washer/dryer unit is conveniently placed nearby.

The bedroom arrangement in the Ivy Tiny House is also distinctive. A child’s bedroom is located underneath the raised living room, though the entrance may be tight. The parents’ bedroom is upstairs, accessed through the bathroom and a staircase that integrates storage. The bedroom is a typical tiny house loft with a low ceiling, yet it includes a double bed and wardrobe space.

Baluchon’s tiny house models usually start at €85,000 (approximately US$87,000), but specific pricing for the Ivy Tiny House is yet to be disclosed. This innovative design proves that a towable home can offer both spacious living and creative layout choices.
