Chery has unveiled an innovative concept van designed to escape the city and embrace adventure with family and friends. The New Journeo Concept, first showcased at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show under the Jinyun name, is a visionary compact-but-expandable hybrid MPV that merges cutting-edge automated driving technology with next-gen camper features like a slide-out glass pod and a deployable frunk kitchen. Chery calls it “Travel 4.0”, redefining how we explore the great outdoors.
Although still a concept, the 519 cm (204 in) Journeo Concept looks like a strong contender in the electric MPV segment, competing with models like the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and the Kia PV5. Unlike its fully electric counterparts, the Journeo is powered by Chery’s Kunpeng Super Performance Electric Hybrid C-DM system, pairing a 2.0-liter turbo engine with electric drive. Looking ahead, Chery envisions a 7th-generation iteration of this system achieving a groundbreaking 1,550 miles (2,500 km) range with a fully charged battery and a topped-up fuel tank—perfect for extended road trips without frequent stops.
Built for both urban and off-road adventure, the Journeo features an adaptable air suspension that scans the road ahead—whether paved or rugged terrain—to automatically adjust the shock settings for an optimal driving experience. This smart suspension enhances both comfort and capability, making it ideal for adventure seekers.
Inside, the Journeo’s spacious yet minimalist interior offers a four-seat configuration, including swivel captain’s chairs in the front and a loveseat-style bench in the back. The innovative rear bench transforms into a relaxation nook, with removable door inserts doubling as cushions. While not a full camper-style bed, the slide-out rear module and a retractable dashboard add an extra 150 cm (59 in) of internal length in lounge mode, opening up possibilities for a van life-inspired getaway.
Further enhancing outdoor experiences, the Journeo concept integrates a mobile kitchen in the frunk, complete with a grill for open-air cooking. The front grille panel extends forward, doubling as a curved loveseat—an ideal spot to relax and enjoy nature. Above, the ultra-thin rooftop module cleverly conceals a solarized storage unit for the deployable awning, which unfolds in a unique three-petal flower design.
Designed in Raunheim, Germany, the Journeo concept was recently introduced in Europe, aligning with Chery’s 2025 launch plans for its Omoda&Jaeco brand in Germany. While a production version remains uncertain, Chery has hinted that some of the innovative features showcased in the New Journeo Concept will make their way into future Omoda&Jaeco vehicles.
This futuristic hybrid MPV represents a bold step toward the next generation of electric adventure vans, offering a blend of long-range efficiency, adaptive comfort, and smart camper technology—perfect for those who dream of escaping the city and embracing the open road.
