In 2016, the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and Barcode Architects unveiled designs for a large-scale mixed-use residential structure with a stunning shape that alludes to a ship’s bow and is reachable from both land and water. The Sluishuis project, which offers a picturesque and energy-efficient neighbourhood on the seaside, is finally finished.
Sluishuis is situated in the Netherlands’ IJburg neighbourhood of Amsterdam. The project’s general design, like BIG’s Via 57 West, is inspired by the classic European courtyard architecture and includes a distinctive aluminium front that is raised to allow boats to pass through into the mooring facilities.
